I´ve started to get into the spirit of Christmas and spent the weekend drying slices of orange, collecting wood, listening to Christmas carols and drinking mulled wine! I´ve put a couple of pictures of my efforts below! All the methods of drying orange slices that I found on the web involved putting them in the Aga. So for those of you, like myself, that aren´t living in a Georgian rectory in the countryside, the best method is as follows: Slice the orange and put onto kitchen paper or on to half of a teatowel. Put more kitchen paper on top or the other half of the teatowel and press out all the juice that you can. You will probably find you use quite a lot of kitchen paper. Place the orange slices on kitchen paper in the microwave and dry for 1 minute on a high setting. Take out and turn over and repeat the process until the oranges are more or less dry (about 4-5 minutes in total). Finish off drying the slices in the oven on a low setting (about 5-10 minutes) and voila! you have festive dried orange slices to make into Christmas decorations! I also added a sprinkling of cinnamon and the aroma of the orange and cinnamon was wonderful!

What a wonderful tip ! I used to have an aga and have moved so this is definitely something I will try.
Well done Lucy – love your topical snippets.
